July 1st, 2024 In Interest of a Political Position, It is with considerable interest that I am seeking to secure a Political position with GOP Jobs. I believe that my municipal & educational experience, combined with my strong interpersonal skills and work ethic would greatly benefit your organization. Following a successful six-year term on the Colchester Board of Finance, I had the honor of representing the Town of Colchester as First Selectman from November 2021 to November 2023. With a population of nearly 15,600 residents and a total area covering 49.8 square miles, my heart and soul was poured into meeting the needs of the community every day. As the town’s Chief Executive Officer, I collaborated with the Finance Department and the Board of Finance to craft and manage a yearly $15.6M municipal budget that aimed at moving the town forward while keeping taxes low. I was directly responsible for the oversight of all municipal departments and over 170 employees. During my tenure, the town was successful in making many successful new hires, including key department heads who brought forward a 21st century approach to many challenges. Under my leadership, the town successfully managed and appropriated nearly $4.6M in American Rescue Plan Act Funds with complete transparency and oversight. The Town was successful in the completion of dozens of projects and initiatives, many of which will have positive impacts for decades. From a new playground, securing field irrigation, revitalizing the historic Town Green & Gazebo, to securing the grounding breaking of a new senior center, and leading the initiative under the Colchester Comeback Grant Program to secure over $1M in ARPA funds for our small businesses and over $200K in local non-profits that were affected by Covid – the Town of Colchester has seen positive transformative change in just two years’ time. Public Safety was also a top priority as the town secured 24/7 Fire & EMS Coverage, new vehicles, modernized equipment for both our Fire Department and Police Department, as well as a historic $135K in yearly tree removal. A historic investment was made to address both growing EMS call volumes and to keep the community safe. Before serving as First Selectman, I had the opportunity to teach as a social studies teacher at Windham Public Schools from 2013-2021. I have worked at both the High School and Middle School levels, with an emphasis on higher-ordered lesson planning, sound classroom management, and building rapport with all students. With every class I was tasked with creating dynamic new lesson plans, new assessments, curriculum design, and engaging projects. It is there where I developed the interpersonal communications skills that would be necessary to bring people of diverse backgrounds and experiences together. I completed my bachelor’s education at Fairfield University with a Major in Political Science and Minor in History and completed my Masters in Secondary Education with Certification (026) at Eastern Connecticut State University. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my qualifications and passion will be an asset to your organization. I appreciate your time and consideration. Sincerely, Andreas Bisbikos
