Volunteer Work Polaris Project: Anti Human Trafficking Nonprofit Human trafficking has always been something that bothered me so I reached out to Polaris where myself and many others work to raise awareness and help survivors. Fundraising is a big way we get them help and educate the public. We also frequently write to our local representatives. Politics and Governance Club: University of New Mexico Worked with the guidance of our professor on a project that allowed us to see some of the road blocks our officials might face when drafting policy. We were encouraged to attempt to come up with options or solve the problem. Ultimately, we wrote a report and gave a massive presentation to two local representatives and they gave us wonderful feedback. The Young Republicans Club: University of New Mexico Under the guidance of our political science teacher, we discussed topics that pertained to Republican ideals. We frequently debated our positions so that we could better understand the reasoning behind these laws. By playing devil’s advocate, we could poke holes in certain arguments but then work together an really think critically to find the answer. We also were kept up to date on political topics that were affecting the world we live in. Suicide Hotline Volunteer: University of New Mexico-Agora Crisis Center This was one of the toughest but most rewarding experiences I had. I answered calls and offered support to suicidal callers. We practiced objective listening while focusing on developing empathy and building rapport with the caller. Election Volunteer Work Volunteer/Recruiter: Green Party of the United States • Motivate people to sign our petitions outside of public establishments • Frequently held phone banking events to raise money • Planned and organized rallies and protests U.S. Senate Election 2015: New Mexico Senator Tom Udall • Attended speaking events and public appearances • Canvassed multiple cities on weekends and at night • Volunteered at the charity events that he put on
