My name is Maxwell Zhao and I am a proud graduate of Texas A&M University. My top policy interests include American foreign policy, national security, firearms legislation, and the aviation industry. I hope to establish a meaningful career in public policy with respect to those interests. I first started in the office of my hometown congressman, Representative Keith Self (TX-03). As a policy intern, I assisted Congressman Self’s legislative team with briefings, hearing materials, and ad-hoc research on various issues surrounding US foreign policy and national security. Under the guidance of Congressman Self’s team, I developed excellent verbal and written communication and helped raise the office’s standard for writing. I continued building upon this experience while interning for the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where I contributed proactively by providing research briefs for subcommittee staff, drafting hearing materials, and tracking global conflicts and foreign policy legislation. After two fulfilling internships on Capitol Hill, I joined a growing political research firm in Virginia. Working within a team of seven people, I processed hundreds of vetting and research requests for the Republican National Committee, the campaign of President-Elect Donald Trump, and the Trump-Vance transition. We constantly pushed to meet or beat our clients' deadlines, even if it meant sacrificing some evenings and weekends. With the conclusion of the election cycle, I want to continue my career by obtaining a new role in government affairs or public service. I am proud of my accomplishments so far, and stand ready for the next challenge. Throughout my experiences, I strengthened my ability to multitask, manage heavy workloads, and adapt to sudden changes. Furthermore, I developed a strong ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner and always maintained strict attention to detail. I am confident that my work ethic, focus, and resilience under pressure will make me a great asset to your team and allow me to contribute to your success.
