My name is Maxwell Zhao and I am a proud graduate of Texas A&M University. My top policy interests include national security, American foreign policy, and the aviation industry. I hope to establish a meaningful career in public policy research with respect to those interests. My time in Washington DC has provided me with fulfilling experiences that helped establish my foundation as a researcher and writer. As a policy intern for Representative Keith Self (TX-03), I assisted the Congressman’s legislative team with attending briefings, preparing hearing materials, and conducting ad-hoc research on various issues surrounding US foreign policy and national security. Under the guidance of Congressman Self’s team, I developed excellent verbal and written communication and helped raise the office’s standard for producing written work. I continued building upon this experience while interning for the House Foreign Affairs Committee, researching various topics for the Indo-Pacific subcommittee staff, drafting written materials for Committee hearings, and tracking global conflicts and foreign policy legislation. Following productive internships on Capitol Hill, I joined a growing political research firm in Virginia. Collaborating with my colleagues, I processed hundreds of vetting and research requests for the Republican National Committee, the campaign of President Donald J. Trump, and the presidential transition team. Each experience pushed me towards becoming a better person and a better professional. The challenges they presented strengthened my multitasking, my workload capacity, and my ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner. Furthermore, I developed an acute awareness of maintaining strict attention to detail. Altogether, I succeeded in helping others make the best-informed decisions possible. With the conclusion of the 2024 campaign cycle, I seek a new challenge where I can use detailed qualitative research to continue helping others make informed decisions and produce meaningful results. I am confident that my work ethic, resilience under pressure, and desire for constant improvement will make me a great asset to your team and allow me to contribute to your success.
